1. How To Brew French Press Coffee At Home
The French Press is one of the easiest and most effective methods for brewing great tasting coffee at home.
When done correctly, French Press coffee is bold, silky, and delicious.
Here’s how to brew the perfect cup of French Press coffee.
What You’ll Need
- Bodum French Press
- Gooseneck Kettle
- Whole Bean Coffee
- Measuring Spoon or Food Scale
- Burr Grinder (You need this if you want to use whole bean coffee)
- Thermometer
Step 1
Fill your kettle with the desired amount of water. I typically use 16 ounces, which is around two cups of coffee here in the U.S. Then bring the water to a boil.
Step 2
While the water is heating up, it’s now time to measure your beans. For 16 ounces of brewed coffee, weigh out 27 grams on your digital scale. If you don’t have a digital scale, you’ll need about 5 tablespoons of coffee.
Step 3
If using whole roasted beans, it’s time to grind the beans. If not, skip down to step 4.
Add beans to your burr grinder and set the dial to coarse grind. Grind the beans. For French Press coffee, we don’t want to grind the beans too fine. The beans should be ground until they look like kosher salt.
Step 4
Put your coffee grounds in the glass cylinder. Next, use your thermometer to check the temperature of the water.
The ideal temperature is around 200 Fahrenheit, which is easy to achieve by bringing your water to a boil and letting it cool down for about one minute.
Step 5
Pour the water over the coffee and set your timer for 4 minutes. Place the plunger on top of the cylinder, but don’t press it down yet.
Step 6
After 1 minute, gently stir the coffee to ensure proper extraction. Then place the plunger back on top of the pot, but don’t press it down just yet. Be patient and wait for the timer to ring.
Step 7
`When the timer goes off, press the plunger all the way down. Pour immediately and enjoy your delicious French Press coffee.
2. How To Brew Aeropress Coffee At Home
Do you want to make great tasting espresso-style coffee at home without an expensive and complicated espresso machine?
If you said yes, then you need an AeroPress.
The AeroPress is the newest and fastest way to make rich, butter-smooth espresso-style coffee without any bitterness.
Follow these easy steps to learn how to make the perfect cup of AeroPress coffee.
What You’ll Need
- AeroPress
- Gooseneck Kettle
- Whole Bean Coffee
- Measuring Spoon or Food Scale
- Burr Grinder (You’ll need this if you want to use whole bean coffee)
- Thermometer
Step 1
Fill your kettle with the desired amount of water. For a standard coffee mug, you’ll need 8-12 ounces. Then bring the water to a boil.
Step 2
While the water is heating up, weigh out your beans. If you’re using whole beans, you’ll need about 17 grams, or 2.5 tablespoons, to fill up the AeroPress measuring spoon.
Step 3
If using whole roasted beans, it’s time to grind the beans. If not, skip down to step 4.
Add beans to your burr grinder and set the dial to the finest grind. Grind away.
Step 4
Assemble the AeroPress with a paper filter inside the cap and place the AeroPress on top of your coffee mug. Make sure to wet the filter with a tiny bit of water.
Step 5
Add your coffee grounds to the AeroPress. Next, use your thermometer to check the temperature of the water. Again, the ideal temperature is around 200 Fahrenheit.
Step 6
Pour the water over your coffee grounds and stir once or twice.
Step 7
Finally, insert the plunger and press down firmly until you hear a hissing sound, which means your delicious AeroPress coffee is now ready to enjoy.
